We Love: Fleurette Outerwear

Brr! It has been COLD across America this week and that has me thinking about outerwear. One of my favorite luxury USA made outerwear brands is Fleurette, available at Nordstrom and if you’re very lucky… you may also score one at Nordstrom Rack.

Fleurette designs and manufactures their luxury coats in New York, NY. They have been an American company for over 50 years! Each one of their coats passes through up to 70 hands (designers, pattern-makers, seamstresses, tailors and more!) before leaving the factory floor, ensuring a high quality product.

Their designs are timeless and classic, and they use high quality materials such as virgin wool, cashmere, alpaca and more. I have tried on a few and they are all SO flattering!

We Love: Lodge Cast Iron

If you love cooking, chances are you’ve heard of Lodge cast iron skillet. They have been in operation since 1896 in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. They are now a 5th generation, family owned, American manufacturer of cookware.

American Manufacturing

Lodge has been doing so great, that they’ve opened up a second manufacturing foundry to increase their capacity by 75%. Their second foundry is just a few blocks away from the original location, and it recently came online with their first production run in November 2017! Congratulations!

A True Story

Here’s a funny story — about 16 years ago, I had heard from a friend that I needed to add a cast iron skillet to my arsenal of cookware. I went to Macy’s, armed with my coupons and was looking around at the various options.

I asked the saleslady what she would recommend between 2 moderately priced cast iron skillets.

She whispered to me… “Don’t bother with either of these. Go get a Lodge cast iron skillet. We don’t sell them here, but they are available at Walmart, Target, Amazon…” I thought, well, perhaps I won’t be able to afford it, but she assured me that they were very well priced and probably cheaper than the ones I was looking at!

We promptly went to our local Walmart and lo and behold, I was able to find my first Lodge cast iron skillet for $12! I was shocked at just HOW affordable these skillets were!

We now own 3 and we use them on a near daily basis. They are great for cooking up steak, hamburgers, pretty much anything. I would love to get a few more sizes, but we have no space in our kitchen for more sizes!

Where To Buy

As mentioned above, a cast iron skillet is a great tool for any home cook. You can find Lodge cookware at Amazon.com, Walmart, Target and at the Lodge website.

We Love: Pendleton

Pendleton We Love American Made Blog

Celebrating Native American Art and Heritage

Pendleton Woolen Mills is an American textile manufacturing company based in Portland, Oregon and they are known for their quality woolen blankets and clothing which they have been making in the Pacific Northwest since the early 1900s! Many of their designs are inspired by Native American designs or are created in collaboration with a Native American artist.

The original woolen mill plants in Pendleton, Oregon, and Washougal, Washington, are among the few woolen mills in operation in the United States today, and Pendleton woolen fabrics and blankets are still woven in these Pacific Northwest mills. Additionally, blankets and shawls are sewn and edged by hand in these mills.

Please note, some garments are woven abroad. However, the Pendleton website clearly marks which items are made in the USA.

Pendleton Blankets and other products are sold at company retail stores (including ones located at their original mill sites), at Pendleton-USA.com, at Macys.com, Amazon.com and Zappos.com.

We Love: SmartWool Socks

SmartWool Socks We Love American Made Blog

I think one of the most taken for granted clothing items has to be socks. I never really put too much thought into them, but occasionally I live to regret it when they slip off my heel, bunch up in my shoes or slide down my legs.

I’ve never had that problem with my SmartWool socks though. I am an avid skiier and snowboarder and I exclusively wear SmartWool socks when I ski and snowboard. I find that they are a nice thickness to keep my feet warm and toasty, but not sweaty because they wick away the moisture. They also provide a little bit of protection from the hard boot.

Most SmartWool socks are knitted right here in America — in Tennessee and North Carolina. A sock takes about 2-6 minutes to knit on the loom, then each sock is hand inspected, paired and then packaged.  Up to a dozen people may work on each sock!

Socks for Every Occasion and Sport

I also love that there are different SmartWool socks for different occasions. On Nordstrom, you’ll find that there are tights, no show casual socks and dress socks. You’ll also find socks especially made for skiing, hiking, running or other sports. There is also a wide selection for kids.

100% Satisfaction Guarantee

They also offer a very generous 100% satisfaction guarantee. If within 2 years of purchase you are not satisfied with your product, you can return it to the store you purchased from for a replacement, or you can send it back to SmartWool for a replacement.

Where to Buy

You can find SmartWool socks on SmartWool.com, NordstromAmazon.com and at REI.

We Love: California Baby

One of my favorite baby care companies is California Baby. They made the most heavenly smelling lavender lotion for babies (and I must admit I’ve used it myself too!)

California Baby We Love American Made Blog

American Manufacturing

All California Baby products are blended, manufactured and packaged in their FDA registered and certified organic solar powered USA facility. Some of their raw materials are sourced abroad (e.g. French lavender oil is from France), but they have their own certified organic calendula farm in Santa Barbara, CA!

Safe from Harmful Chemicals and Allergens

California Baby products are all free of parabens, PABA, phthalates and dyes. Packaging materials are free of BPA, PVC and phthalates.

California Baby products are also free of common allergens such as gluten, milk/casein, egg, peanut, walnut, cashew, almond and pecans, fish, shellfish, soy and wheat.

Great for Vegans

Nearly all California Baby products are also safe for vegans as they are plant based! There are a few products which use lanolin which is an animal product: the diaper rash creams and Super Sensitive SPF 50+ sunscreen. Also, all products are certified cruelty free, as they do not test products or ingredients on animals.

Favorite Products

Some of my favorite products are their lotions. I love their Calming Everyday Lotion which smells of French Lavender and Sage. I also liked the Calendula Shampoo & Bodywash!

We Love: Green Toys

Welcome to the We Love American Made blog! I started this blog because I am always looking for high quality and safe products for my family to use. I also love supporting local businesses!

Green Toys Made In America - We Love American Made Blog

The first business I’d love to highlight is Green Toys. My kids have been playing with Green Toys products since they were tiny babies.

Safe and Non-Toxic Toys

One of the first toys I bought my daughter when she was just a few months old was this cute yellow school bus.  It was well designed to be easy to grasp for little hands, sturdy, inexpensive and most important of all SAFE. Green Toys are BPA-free, phthalate-free and conform to strict safety and environmental standards of the state of California.

The Green Toys Promise
The Green Toys Promise

Environmentally Friendly Toys, Made in the USA

Green Toys uses 100% recycled materials in US-based manufacturing facilities. Recycled milk jugs are the primary material used in their manufacturing. Also, their product packaging is mostly recycled cardboard and they strive to use as little plastic “extras” as possible. This is wonderful news as I find the little plastic ties, wrappers and clamshells impossibly frustrating and wasteful.

Engaging Children’s Imaginations

I also love that Green Toys are toys without batteries! I find that these types of toys engage my children’s imagination more. I also love that most of their toys are generally in colors that are neutral.

Where To Buy

You can find Green Toys sold on GreenToys.com and on Amazon.com.
